男人和女人吃着晚饭。吃完后，男人就会搭上车直奔机场，他要去一个遥远的城市出差。飞机是不等人的，可是他们的晚饭精致而丰富，一点也没有马虎，全是女人的拿手好菜。女人用了大半个下午的时间，让桌子上摆满了海鲜。
男人是在傍晚登上飞机的。他对女人说，当他走出机场的时候，时间会很晚，所以他今天晚上就不给女人打电话了，等到第二天清晨再打。女人说：“好。”然后，她站在窗口向男人挥手再见。
很晚了，女人早已熟睡。忽然，电话的铃声把她吵醒了，她看了看表，已是凌晨。女人爬起来，来到客厅，接起电话，她听到了男人的声音。
男人开口就挺突兀：“你还好吗？”女人有些惊讶：“还好，我已经睡下了。不是说早晨再打电话吗？”男人好像不放心，又追问一句：“你没事吧？”女人有些好笑，男人也太婆婆妈妈了，虽然她知道他是在关心自己，“我当然没事，睡的正香。你怎么了？”男人说：“跟你说一声，我已经到了。你不用担心，有事别忘了给我打电话。”然后，他跟女人道了声晚安，急急的将电话挂断了。
女人拿着电话，愣了足足一分钟。她想今晚的男人有些不对劲，哪里不对劲呢？一时却又说不出来。
半个月后，男人从那座城市回来，依然神采奕奕。只是他肚子上多了一条伤疤。女人问怎么回事，他回答：“没事，一点小伤。”女人急了，追问不休。
男人就笑了：“告诉你，你可不要生气。那天，我下了飞机在街上走，肚子突然很痛，那是从来没有过的绞痛，让我几乎晕厥。于是，我一下子想到了海鲜，想到可能是食物中毒。你知道，在我们这个海滨小城，每年都有人因为吃海鲜而送命。于是，我给你打电话，我想假如真的是因为那些海鲜，那么此时你一定也会有感觉。假如你没有接电话，或者虽然接了，但身体不舒适，我就会直接把电话打到120急救中心，让他们马上赶到咱们家。后来听你口气，一切都很正常，我就没在惊动你，放心的挂了电话。”
“感觉都那么不舒服了，你还不赶快想个办法先救自己？哪有那么多心思想东想西的？”
男人深情地望着女人：“再紧迫，我也要先给你打个电话。你知道，食物中毒是马虎不得的，时间就是生命。”
女人想起来了，那天，电话固执的响了好久，她才懒懒地起来接听。虽然她和男人只是聊了简短的几句，可是这几句话，用了大约半分钟的时间，男人其实正在忍受着巨大的疼痛。当他在确信女人没有任何问题后，排除了食物中毒的可能，才挂断了电话，才开始向路人求救或者求助于当地的120急救中心。假如那天他们真的是食物中毒，那么，即使在几千里之外，男人也会把医务人员送到她的身边。只不过，男人会因此而耽误三十秒，或者说，在生死关头，男人把自己的三十秒，毫不犹豫地送给了女人。而这三十秒，男人肯定深知，极有可能就是生与死的距离。
女人不说话了，她已经说不出话来了。
男人轻松的笑了笑说：“还好，只是虚惊一场，什么可怕的事情都没有发生。”他又指了指肚皮上的那条伤疤，调皮的眨了下眼睛，说：“这是急性阑尾炎留下的纪念。”
女人笑不出来，只是那泪却留了满面。
